Hybrid Holsters

A hybrid holster pairs a molded Kydex shell with a wide backer of leather or padded material. The shell gives Kydex retention and an open mouth; the backer spreads the weight and protects the body.

Hybrids rank high on comfort and retention

Why shooters choose hybrids

  • Comfort of leather against the skin with the retention of Kydex.
  • Wide backer spreads weight, helping heavier guns ride inside the waistband.
  • Shell stays open for one-handed reholstering.

Trade-offs

  • Bulkier than a minimalist Kydex holster.
  • The backer can soften over time and may need replacing.
  • Wider footprint can print more under tight clothing.
