Inside the waistband (IWB) holsters ride between the pants and the body, with only a clip or loop over the belt. Most of the gun hides below the belt line, so a loose shirt covers the rest. It is the most popular way to carry concealed.

Where it rides
- Strong side, 3 to 5 o’clock: the classic position behind the hip.
- Appendix, 12 to 1 o’clock: fastest draw and best concealment, but needs a well-designed holster and careful reholstering.
What to look for
- A stiff gun belt; it matters as much as the holster.
- Adjustable ride height and cant.
- A claw or wing to tuck the grip in on appendix carry.
- Sized for one size larger pants.

Carrying a red dot
Optic-ready holsters leave room for the sight. This Glock 19 with an RMR shows the fit.
